Black currants are high in Vitamin C, potassium and a rare Omega 6 fatty acid called GLA
(Gamma Linoleic Acid). They have twice the potassium of bananas, four times the Vitamin C of oranges and twice the antioxidants of blueberries. Black currant has powerful anti-inflammatory action and can be helpful in reducing arthritis. An in vitro study found black currant extract to inhibit the proliferation of breast cancer and colon cancer cells. Also the higher the Vitamin C content, the more the cancer cell proliferation was inhibited. Studies also show it to decrease platelet aggregation, meaning that it is a beneficial blood thinner.
